From the Channel Tunnel or Calais and Boulogne ferry ports

Calais: take the A16 then the A28 travelling south west to Le Mans.

Le Mans: take the A11 towards Angers and then the A85 to Saumur.

Saumur: drive south west from Saumur. Le Ruault is approximately 25 minutes' away.

Approximate travel time: 5 hours 20 minutes.

 

From Cherbourg, Caen or Le Havre

Travel via Caen and Alençon before picking up the A28 to Le Mans, then follow the directions above.

Approximate travel time: 4 hours 30 minutes from Cherbourg, 3 hours 15 minutes from Caen and 3 hours 30 minutes from Le Havre.

Ryanair www.ryanair.com and FlyBe www.flybe.com fly to many of the airports closest to Le Ruault from Stansted, Birmingham, Exeter, Southampton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

easyJet www.easyjet.com flies to Nantes (from London Gatwick) and to La Rochelle (from London Gatwick and Bristol).

 

 

Le Ruault is one of the properties in a hamlet, about 2.5 miles (4 km) from the village of Bouillé-Loretz. The village has a small store, bakery, butcher and bar.

There are modern Super U supermarkets in all three nearby market towns:

  • Doué-la-Fontaine
  • Montreuil-Bellay and
  • Thouars.

In addition, there are local 'farmers' markets in Doué-la-Fontaine (Mondays), Montreuil-Bellay (Mondays) and Thouars (Tuesdays and Fridays).

We are 25 minutes' drive from Saumur, a town steeped in military history on the banks of the Loire. Saumur market is held on most days.

 

 

By Train

We have travelled from the UK by train. It took just over 5 hours from St Pancras to Angers, changing in Paris. An alternative is to go via Lille. It is a longer journey but an easier change at Lille.

You can book through Rail Europe www.raileurope.com and the fares are surprisingly reasonable - more than a low-cost flight but cheaper than many similar-length journeys in the UK.

 

Car Hire

Le Ruault is a very rural spot, so if you are flying out or travelling by train, you will need to hire a car for the duration of your stay.
